I love this Pat Metheny song and decided to play some improvisation on the introduction.

  • I like that quiet nylon sound in context. Don't personally know the song well enough to make comments on the scale/harmony relationships, but you don't sound like you're floundering. Thanks for the clip.

  • no thanks

  • Theres nothing wrong with modal thinking, but it needs to contrast with the tertian relationship in order to become relevant (thank you Freddie Hubbard... lol).

Again, nice phrasing, though. Keep trying!

  • Ok, your phrasing is alright. It's nice to hear you thinking about that.

But you really need to understand what the true function of the harmony is. Otherwise, the notes you throw in there are side/developing or passing notes have no relevance.

Try to map out exactly what scale goes with each chord and why. Understand the function of the chord in the harmony, specifically how the V to I relationship goes.

  • Nice job and BTW, Gig 'Em!

  • Nice one!
