A little experimentation with Valve's Source editor 'Hammer' for a TF2 map I have been working on.

SEQUENCE
A trigger area on the floor plays a sound and waits 1 second when touched. Spot light comes on and ring sound begins.
Ring sequence is a series of 'door' entities closing. The bottom ring contains a 'HURT' that will kill you if you get caught in it. Teleport area is toggled. (activated/deactivated)
Ring sequence is then reversed (doors opening) and spotlight turned off.
Total cycle time is 10 seconds.

Sounds sampled from other YouTube videos w/ Audacity.

Rings are thin, 20 segment, 360 degree arches, using all in-game textures.

  • is this based on SGR?

  • @Ajoh92 I did my video a month before SGR was announced, and 4 months before it was first released... so, um... No. In fact I had not even heard of SGR till you mentioned it. My rings were based off of the original rings from the movie Stargate.

  • How do you make the teleporter?

  • You use a trigger_teleport and point it at an info_teleport_target

  • Why are people disliking this?!

  • Looks cool, but you should have more sides for the rings, so they look more round xD and I'd try and get it so that the rings kind of bounce up to there final position.

  • @Tehrasha ok, it's just that the latest map on SGR looks alot like this

  • being a Stargate fan and a TF2 mapper, I think this is really cool. Good work.

And @vassatiny 's right, needs something in the middle...

  • A tip for the "light beam" effect that's meant to be when the rings transport you: Put several point_spotlights colored a yellow/whiteish hue facing outwards, when all 5 rings are down, make the spotlights move from bottom to top, then shut off and have the rings ascend back into the ceiling again, I did this with my own version which I was just inspired to improve and make a video of.

  • do u have a site where i can download this map? i really want to play it

  • hey cool can i copy your stargate ring? im making a ze map it will save me alot of time and il credit you
