Your advice is theoretically very sound. You forgot to add to take 300 bricks, 2 bags of cement and a trowel with you so that a wall could be built round the bike for added security.
Here's some equally sound advice on giving up smoking. Don't buy cigarettes or put any in your mouth. Clearly stopping smoking is in the head so this advice is futile.

Everyone who steals bikes uses that excuse about how times are tough and you have to feed your family. It's still stealing. Anyway you put it it's wrong and illegal and I hope you don't continue doing this to other people's bikes.
