Twenty-six-year-old Brendan Marrocco was the first soldier to survive losing all four limbs in the Iraq War, and doctors revealed Monday that he received a double-arm transplant on December 18 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. (Jan. 29)

This is one tough guy. He's not unique in the US military, and not alone in the price he has paid. Here's hoping medical technology, and his grit, can do service to those who have served, at the same time as drawing attention to the senseless cost of politics when politicians mistakenly think they have any right or reason whatsoever to call a nation to go to war.

Let the military command itself in war, let the politicians deal with healthcare, education, and domestic law and order.
