@1988MILLWALL the elephant and castle is the first indoor shopping centre to be built in europe I highly doubt it was build in 85.

As a very young kid lived there between 1976-79 before moving to Barnes!!...Big difference...Sorry, South London hellhole back then, lots of crime and simmering violence. glad we left the manor....

You all need to read Michael Collins book "The Likes of Us" written about the history of the area from someone whose family lived there for generations. It is very informative.

Note to the documentary maker. this wonderful "redevelopment plan" the council are backing is primarily aimed at tearing down estates like the heygate and relocating (inadequatly) everyone., so they can sell prime real estate to the highest bidder. All this redevelopment plan is going to do is force people out into the suburbs and allow the developers to up the rents on stupidly rich people who can still afford to live in central london.

Nuke the place, f',ing shit hole its gone theres nothing left there, just a few shit market stalls and a tesco metro, thats it i think may be an iceland and a boots which have nothing of interest anyway., Good ol elephant and castle alright if you want to buy an over sea's sim card, speak columbian or enjoy eating in greasyspoon cafes.
