Contemporary pop/R&B singer Karyn White was born in Los Angeles, where her father played trumpet and her mother was a church choir director. White gained experience singing in choir and also in local talent shows and beauty pageants. She sang with local band Legacy and then toured with R&B vocalist O'Bryan in 1984. A lead vocal on instrumentalist Jeff Lorber's "Facts of Life" led to Warner Bros. signing her.

  • @KarynWhiteOfficial How often do you still find yourself jamming to this song in your spare time? Do you and Jeff still keep in touch? Blessing to see you're back and sharing much-needed influential knowledge!

  • @oubrioko Haven't kept up with what happened since then but up until the late 80's giving credit (let alone royalities) to artists for sample rights weren't on the forefront until De La Soul (for one) was sued. After that ice was broken, alot of artists were demanding to get paid for their work.MC Hammer was one of the first rappers to pay other artists before al the hoopla. Just thought it was hypocritical for them to say that when they were just as guilty (JMO).

  • @uVueD2b Yeah, what's up with that? I've noticed that both Jam and former Flyte Tyme recording/mixing engineer Steve Hodge have acknowledged that they sampled 'Thank You. . .' in recent years, but as you pointed out, the liner notes of my old Rhythm Nation 1814 CD does not mention Sly (or anyone in the Family Stone) at all. According to some news stories, Stone receives royalties for 'Rhythm Nation.' Do you know if Sly had to (threaten to) sue to get the royalties he deserved?

  • @pannoni1 And Jody Watley ish too.

  • @oubrioko This coming from taking Sly Stone's "Thank You..." riff on Janet's "Rhythm Nation" and didn't give him credit...

  • @KarynWhiteOfficial YAAAAY KARYN!!!!!

  • Karen White where are you....we miss you sooo much....come back girl :)

  • Je possède le 12'' giant single remixé par VICTOR FLORES ( 6'50 ) c'est vraiment de la bombe atomique ... en 1986.. GOOOOOOOOOOOO
