Music journalist and author Will Hodgkinson interviews singer-songwriter David Gray. Although Gray released his first album in 1993, he did not receive worldwide recognition until his 1999 album White Ladder catapulted him to fame and fortune. With seven albums under his belt, Gray has won two Ivor Novello Awards for songwriting and received a Grammy nomination. Here he describes what inspired him to write the haunting songs, This Year's Love, The One I love, You're The World To Me and Breathe, before giving an exclusive performance of them.

  • 3:00 he starts to grins when he says "baby your the world to me"... Hmmm was he thinking happy thoughts? ;)

  • The interviewer comments too dry- witted at the whole interview. I couldn´t keep calm, when David Gray would sit in front of me, answering my questions. Here you get a valuable insight in the mindset of a really great musician of modern times. Maybe it´s a shortage of respect or Hodgkinson hasn´t any conception of music, although he is a music journalist.

  • how much would you pay, to a charity, to be able to sit next to David like this dude, in the same setting......

  • He's barely talking to Hodgekinson at all, it's almost as if he's interviewing himself. Really interesting guy and an awesome musician.

  • A master craftsman at work...

  • Perhaps David rarely looked at the interviewer because that helped him think about what he wanted to say; Maybe if David had constantly stared at him, he might've lost his train of thought.

  • Why is it that he rarely looks at the interviewer?

    David Gray's quality though!

  • It's interesting that at about 3:24, it almost appears as if he is coming out of a type of trance.

  • how can you not love the guy!

  • I always thought that first line was "You started talking in the line with me" like in the line at the movie theatre or something, lol. I like this version too :) His songs are so beautiful, it amazes me each time I listen.
