Tomah, WI (04.23.10)-- The Wisconsin Dells Chiefs boys and girls track teams traveled to Tomah on Friday to take part in the 29th Annual Earl Gatzke Invitational track meet at E.J. McKean Field.
Competing along with the host Tomah Timberwolves were Wisconsin D1 high school track teams from Wausau West, Onalaska, Holmen, Sparta, and La Crosse Logan. Division 2 sized schools included Mauston, Nekoosa, Westby, and the Wisconsin Dells Chiefs.
The Chiefs 4x800m boys relay team (Ryan Stroede, Max Mattei, Timmy Sosinsky, and Bobby Blaschke) finished second in the night's opening event as Nekoosa turned in Wisconsin's fastest D2 4x800m relay time of the season to beat the Chiefs.
In finishing second Wisconsin Dells PR'd while turning in a Top 10 Wisconsin Honor Roll of their own.
Beating Wisconsin Dells to the line, the Nekoosa Papermakers shattered the meet record (set in 1994) of 8:22.6 by 13 seconds!
Many new meet records were set on Friday including the boys 4x800 meter relay by the Papermakers (Matt Eidenschink, Michael and Jacob Peterson, and Kyle Severson). Nekoosa's Ben Tenpass did to the two-year-old discus throw record what the Papermakers' 4x800m team did to the 16-year-old record they smashed as Tenpas easily surpassed the old mark of 157'5" by 17 feet.
