The Propellors on both outboard were both a bit the worse for wear, with damage to outer blades of each Prop. This has to be repaired as the vibration and the props out of balance can cause major damage to your motor if not fixed. This damage is common with people hitting boatramps, the beach, rock bars etc, so pays to be careful when coming in to retrieve your boat, always trim your motor's up.
The damage wasn't too bad, and nick reshaped and welded up the alloy props, then ground back as good as new. Any local welder or marine dealer will be able to help fix your damaged props and shouldn't be too expensive if you haven't got the gear to do it yourself.
Always check for fishing line, braid behind your props, doesn't take much, to get into your gearbox seals, and allow water into your gearbox, Gets expensive then, as your gearbox won't last long lubricated with water, keep an eye out for that fishing line.
Please subscribe with more great boating and maintenance tips coming, and how to service your outboard motor, gearbox and heaps more. Our little project boat is coming along nicely. We just had cyclone Ului go through and unfortunately the weather hasn't been favourable for fishing, soon though we'll be out there!!

if you have bigger chunks outta your propellor would it lack proformance ?

It can affect performance, but worse will off balance your prop and driveshaft which can cause stress and wear on your motor and ultimately cause engine failure if bad enough or run long enough, so well worth fixing damaged propellors

poll: do more of you guys like one big motor or two smaller ones?
m1garand77 4 months ago
They both have there pluses and minuses, I prefer two, and work well on Catamarans. Unfortunately, even new outboard motors still break down, dirty fuel, electronic problems, and is always great to have a back up motor, and able to get home under your own power,

i didnt see it on these motors, but i have a ring thing that sit's over top of teh prop, and is bolted to the motor with two bolts.....
teh motor was brand new last year, and i split this ring hitting a log,
i dont know if i did some serious damage?..or is it a simple replacement??
..if anyone can make any sense out of my comment, could you please respond with your 2cents on what it might be??

Not sure on that one, some props will have a rubber bush which will give way, but still work at slow speeds enabling you to get home. What brand motor and size, and probably best to check with your local dealer,
