Just to demonstrate what the right hand does in terms of playing the note and damping. Try to alternate the 1 and 2 fingers fingers, and use the thumb 3 and 4 firngers to damp. If you keep practising it will come. but these are just a guide as you may find it more comfy to develope your own way of right hand playing. The general gist is to keep steady in volume and time, and to keep the other strings that are not played muted at the same time, all resulting in a clean sounding note. Again you will develop stamina and power as you practise. Bass playing needs alot of stamina and power in both hands as in 99% of songs you play all the way through the song. Your job as a bassist is to bring the rhythm and melody together so a sense of timing and musical theory is quite important as well as strength and stamina in the hands and arms. Like any instrument you can learn as little or as much as you wish to make you the player you wish to be and the level that you are happy to be at. With all things start simple and the rest will follow as you need it. :-) One thing about music, you will always learn, every day and every playing situation you learn something new, and musicians you watch and play alongside will bring something to your playing.
