What To Do When Your Pension Is In Jeopardy?

A pension is an arrangement to provide people with an income when they are no longer earning a regular income from employment. So what happens if your employer files for bankruptcy or just flat closes their doors.

Switching from a heavy reliance on bonds, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation decided to pour billions of dollars into speculative investments such as stocks in foreign markets, and real estate. We all know what has happened to the stock market and Real Estate Market.

The collapse of the stock market last year left corporate pension plans under funded by Billions of dollars.

General Motors has filed bankruptcy. Whats going to happen to all the employees that were close to retirement? Will they get their pension? If their pension is turned over to the government, then the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp will handle it, and the maximum guaranteed amount for workers who retire at age 65 is $54,000 annually. The limits are lower for workers who retire before they're 65. The earlier the retirement, the lower the guaranteed amount.

Barclays announced that it is to water down the future pension benefits of 17,000 long-serving employees. What is going to happen to all these people that worked for these huge corporations? What is going to happen to their pension. What is going to happen to YOU!

Even though its your money that was put in the pension fund all those years you worked, you could possibly not get it, and if you do your still taxed on it!
