  • well done! martial arts and squatting, who could have thought... what do you tell to the people that say you can get a red eye or blow a vessel in your head that way?

  • I think you have to consult w. a doctor.

    As far as red eyes from squatting, I'd say that most people who train hard and heavy probably get that from time to time.

    One thing as far as the "pressure" goes - the pressure build-up should be felt in the midsection, NOT the head. If you're feeling it in the head, you're probably not breathing properly and you're probably not maintaining tension either.

  • I should have watched this video last month. At that time I had to find out "the hard way" how to breath and how to stay "tight".

  • One of the reasons that I love Pavel's "Power to the People" and "The Naked Warrior" is that he really puts the idea of tension and breathing together in a simple, easy-to-understand manner. I'm guessing that most "natural athletes" get this stuff right away, but the rest of us either figure it out through trial-and-error or just slog away doing it wrong. I hope there were still things that you could take from it. Thanks for watching.

  • Thanks for the examples. We just discussed breathing on a chain bp tonight in training. It made a huge difference.... the whole keeping tight issue was fixed. I hope this is true for my dl and squats too. Thanks for the post!

    First Example set: 135lbs/62kgs

    Second Example set: 225lbs/102kgs

    Third Example set: 315lbs/143kgs

  • I would like to add that modern research actually suggests that tension in the head is taken away. This effect happens during sneezing and coughing as well. Increased intrabdominal pressure leads to decreased pressure in the brain fluids.

    Your cue to [get set and execute as if about to take a punch] is a good one. I used it as a cue for a couple of sets with good results.
