The instrument is called a koto or chinese harp. It is 24 string harp which is tuned in a acending major pentonic scale.

@smalltins This instrument is in fact not the Koto. The koto is the Japanese adaptation of the 'Guzheng' (transliterated) ortherwise known as the Chinese Zither, whereas this IS the Guzheng. Although both are played with 'claws'/picks, they are two entire different instruments with differing intervals between each string. PS: there may have been some negative Japanese bias in my comment, but I can't help but clarify the difference. Some may disagree.
