Small changes, big differences. In this video, I demonstrate three simple UI tweaks to iOS that really improve functionality and use.

1. Wi-Fi Selection. Instead of a alert-style dialog prompting you to choose a network (you must decide what to do at that moment before moving on), a Wi-Fi banner appears, prompting you that there are available networks to connect to. Simply tap the banner to go to settings, or swipe down to easily connect to a network, WITHOUT EXITING your app. This same kind of notification style can be put to use for other alerts, such as low battery. Ultimately, the main goal of this tweak is to eliminate the modal, interrupting alert all together for iOS system functions (battery, WiFi, SIM card, etc).

2. Popovers. A simple iPad UI design that now appears on the iPhone and iPod Touch. Instead of context menus taking you away from your current window, all actions can now be performed within the popover. For example, printing. Reading lists can also be handled this way. But this doesn't just apply to Safari. Any menu in any app that allows you to perform more actions appears as a popover.

3. Landscape Multitasking. Your thumbs will be on the right and left of the device, no matter how you hold the phone. So instead of the tray coming up on the bottom when in landscape, it appears on the side of the home button, but the icons, buttons, and swiping direction rotate to your direction. Simple, yet effective.

The Apple Logo, iPhone, iOS, and Mac OS X are the sole property of Apple, Inc. located in Cupertino, CA. This is an independently animated concept for software development.

  • @marrked You sire, predicted this would happen 5 months ago. Are you a wizard?

  • This bugs me so much about iOS. The notification center was supposed to fix interruptions, but all the time I'm stopped by "20% battery" and "select wifi"notifications. why can't they notify you like other apps?!?!

  • That is the biggest thing that bugs me with iOS 5 is how the multitask buttons don't rotate.

  • I wish your GREAT ideas to be considered by Apple for the next updates of the iOS !

  • how do I get that? thanks.

  • any1 else notice that this is similar to android

  • this is brilliant! I would also love to see the icons on the bottom of the browser rotate as well

  • every thing is awesome, but apple did say that pop overs are not coming to iPhones and iPod touches!!

  • @13NoHeaRt14 probably final cut pro
