Marty icluded this song in his 'Song Of The Islands' album which featured a collection of Hawaiian songs. 'Now Is The Hour' however, derives from New Zealand Maori origins and was popularized just after the war by Gracie Fields and Bing Crosby.

  • Thanks pentubes for taking the time and trouble to comment on what clips I've posted by Marty. He's my 'hero' as well. To me, he has never received the credit or plaudits his unique vocal and songwriting talents deserved.

Not only did he have outstanding vocal ability, but he wrote many wonderful songs that crossed all genres.

  • Now is the hour was also sung at Cardiff Arms Park when we said farewell to the All Blacks at the end of a tour. Great moment and great memories.

  • Yes Maori Farewell song, great by Marty and I am a fan,, but have to say the maoris sing it better.

  • @Egdirnam a Māori song :)

  • I remember this tune back in the 40s. I love this song

  • My grandpa died in 1948, four years before I was born, but I was told that this was one of his favorite songs, and it was playing on the radio when my grandma got word that he'd been electrocuted at work. I've always loved this song.

  • @Scerena0 - Marty first recorded this in 1957, so I've playlisted it for that year.

I'm creating playlists for each of the past 100 years - a musical escape to the past. Years 1950-1975 play for an hour each.

200 more playlists honor individual artists - I add every upload I can to them.
