So long Northland Center Mall Police

Your both right and wrong. Northland officers were disarmed in the 1980's, I believe, possible later. They had full power of arrest and were certified by MCOLES under Public Act 330 as amended. So not sure what you mean by operating "under" police authority since they were a police agency. So in reality, they operated "under police authority" like every other police agency in the state. It was a bad idea to get rid of them, they took a major load off the city.

I remember seeing some of the Northland Police vehicles back in the mid-90's or the late-90's when I was younger. They were always on patrol keeping the mall crime-free and gang-free, but right now, we've hit hard times as the NPD are now disbanded; more business here are being eliminated and all that... And finally, the good ol' JCpenny department store--which was closed down sometime in the late-90's... When is the city ever gonna wake up?!

Well as predicted...Northland has turned back into a GANGLAND BATTLE FIELD again. Shootings, stabbings, crime, crime, crime....and I hear the mall is up for sale again. Hmmmm I wonder if that's because of the crime that keeps shoppers away? Maybe the next owners will do the right thing and put PA 330 Certified Mall Police back into the place. To the current owners: I TOLD YOU SO DUMMIES!

What's a rent a cop going to do if something goes down? Observe and report, that's all. They are 99% hands off and basically worthless. Oakland Mall and Great Lakes X'ing security are worthless untrained rent a cops too.
Somerset Collection has it's own security and they will make arrests for retail fraud, but all they carry are handcuffs. I think Fairlane still has mall police. I heard Taubman tried to get rid of them until the city threatened to hit them with violations.

You are 100% correct, dude.

Dude, that was a stupid idea what the mall did. (Removing Northland Mall police). Some gangster living in nothern Detroit can easly cross 8 Mile and try to spray paint or do something dangerous to the mall.

First of all smart guy, i was refering to the contract security, the red patches they are talking about hiring. But since you know everything, the security at the mall now, they are not full sworn 100% police officers with guns. They operate under police authority, which is the state of Mi public act 330, only allow private security officers to excersise police authority on private property only. Learn your laws and know what your saying b 4 you speak.

ha sorry smart guy, there not rent a cops, there sworn peace officers with 100% police powers. Badge, gun, handcuffs and baton. They need it there.
There's been police in that ghetto mall for 55 years for a reason! If it wasn't for those cops, that mall would have burned down years ago. I feel sorry for the people that own a business there...The gangs will own that mall again by mid summer. I hope nobody gets killed.
