Iowa Town Turned into "Open-Air Prison" as Wives of Men Arrested in Largest Immigration Raid in US History Forbidden to Work...or Leave
Three months after the largest immigration raid in US history, when nearly 400 workers were arrested at a meatpacking plant, Postville, Iowa is a changed town. Postville lost more than a quarter of its population in the raid. And for those left behind, namely the wives and children of the men taken away, the town has been turned into what some have described as an open-air prison. Dozens of immigrant women remain in Postville without status or a means of support. Many of them are even forbidden from leaving and have been made to wear electronic monitoring bracelets. [includes rush transcript]
Whilst I sympathize for these people who are currently in this mess through no other crime than wanting to make a better life for themselves I feel that the closure of this vile and barbaric plant was a good thing.

@tix333..oh boy, here we go with the age old "doing work nobody wants to do" bullshit..Americans used to want to do that work until employers found they could hire illegals for half the price...So now an American citizen cant afford to do that work unless they want to live like an illegal, you know, welfare, food stamps and 10 people living in a 1 room apt....no thanx.

This was a shocker back then, now, at least in VA, it's the way of dealing with immigrants. Makes me feel so angry and impotent!

This reminds me of something, about 70 years ago, Germany. Or maybe it is just bad,bad Mexicans doing work nobody wants, paying taxes... oh yes sure it is their fault America is in economic crises :-) Maybe i'm a bit naive... well will see.
