I had a problem with the windows start-up too. So I had to do the system recovery fix it and it worked fine for me compared to your situation. I don't have the slightest idea of why that's happening, maybe there's nothing you can do except get a new computer. I never had that problem before.
I had a similar problem. except I got an error on the screen. "the os was not detected" or something similar. The solution in this case was the bios setting for the harddrive. Somehow the "auto" selection got screwed up and I had to change it to option at the top. I cant quite remember the name of it but it worked for me right away. I know that "large" option didn't work for me but the other one did!
Your hard drive is dead, it booted to the BIOS but could not get past there. It cannot format because the hard drive is not detected because it is dead.
iv never had that kind of problem nor that computer the only tower i had was a emachines and that never accerd sorry i don't think i can help if i come up with a solution il let you know. i know somewone who can fix any thing with a pc

Over windows 98 vs XP, i have would have chosen the 98. XP has too many problems. Over vista and 7, i choose 7.

This Probably Works! For me...
1. Maybe You Need To Go Start>Run
2 Type This On Run MSCONFIG 3 . Optional: Capital Is Optional
4. Click Normal Startup On General Tab 5. Done
