Adele lost her son, firefighter Timothy Welty, at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. As a member of September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrow, Adele has lobbied, marched and participated in civil disobedience against the Iraq War. During the summer of 2008, she made her third trip to the Middle East to work with Iraqi citizen groups that are working to end the violence and secure peace.
