The Gabor is closely related to another Balinese dance called Pendet. There's a full version of Pendet on Youtube and if you compare the two, you'll see that they are rather similar. Both Gabor and Pendet are welcoming dances that were originally meant for religious and sacred events. This dance was first created in 1969 by I Gusti Raka and later revised by I Wayan Beratha in 1970.

  • @Chichiri520 I agree! I often saw one or more dogs wandering around (sometimes even right on-stage) in Thailand. The dancers and audience think it's totally normal. They have the same serene acceptance of the universe and utter concentration on their dance. The only time things get artificially 'cleaned up' is when the audience are primarily tourists. The best events are dances performed at temple fairs 'upcountry'. The dogs and littel kids all crawl around on- and off-stage ;)

  • 私はこのダンスが好きです...

  • I think the dog adds a certain natural beauty to the video. It shows that it is so natural and not recorded in a studio. The dancers remain calm, serene, and just continue what they are doing regardless of what is around them. That is very admirable ^_^

Thanks for sharing the beauty of Balinese culture with us.

  • What's the matter with the dog? Who cares? I hate respectless people btw.

  • @ff283 You seem like a very rude person! I dnt see whats wrong with mentioning a dog, they wont even be watching the video unless they were interested in the dance primarily, you are the one wit the problem!

  • @okuniya You cant base you opinions of a whole country based upon what some people say.

  • Malaysian always appreciated ALL NUSANTARA DANCES included Balinese dances but after INdonesian tried make fake statements about Pendet dance was stole by Malaysian, that's really maKE many Malaysian hate all things about Bali and indonesian mentality.

  • "This dance was first created in 1969 by I Gusti Raka and later revised by I Wayan Beratha in 1970."
