Harrow is becoming cleaner, greener and safer as public agencies join forces to combat issues ranging from graffiti to abandoned vehicles.
The first of many planned 'Weeks of Action' started in Long Elmes and Carmelite Road, Harrow Weald from on Monday,September 17.
A partnership of local organisations will blitz different areas of the borough during the next year as part of an on-going operation to make the borough cleaner, greener and safer.
The partners include Harrow Council, the police, Safer Neighbourhood teams, Fire Brigade, Harrow in Business, DVLA, RSPCA and Victim Support.
They will undertake a variety of duties including graffiti removal, collecting fly-tipped material, cutting back overgrown vegetation, chasing outstanding warrants, identifying abandoned vehicles, estate inspections and collection of rent arrears.
Activities will be publicised on a dedicated website called Pride in Harrow (www.prideinharrow.org.uk) and targeted areas leafleted beforehand to keep residents informed of the daily activities.
Cllr Susan Hall, Portfolio Holder for Harrow Council's Environment Services, said: "The council wants to tackle problem areas to better reflect people's concerns.
"By pooling resources to tackle areas collectively we will provide a more comprehensive service, whilst getting far greater value for money for residents.
"This is a new idea and I am pleased that Harrow is looking at fresh ways to tackle issues of genuine concern."
