@GeorgiaBoy1961 And at 3$ million maximum. Highly effective, mid-cost easy to manufacture MBT.

@GeorgiaBoy1961 For me the perfect tank would be : High slope front armour, composite, with russian style heavy ERA all around, cheap but effective 6 wheels torsion bar suspension, classic rear-ish turret whith long bustle, automatic loaded L7 whith around 55 ammo, 3 crews, front-place compact diesel motor and front transmission, latest thermal and stuff, 14.5x114 KPV as coaxial, and a remote control 7.62 chain gun on the turret (no need for ammo box), all this at 45/48 tonnes

@GeorgiaBoy1961 L7 105mm is IMO the best tank gun ever made, even if it is obsolete against modern MBTs, it has such a great accuracy, adaptablility, all purpose shells, long life... I understand why it can't be realistic today when you see the armour of tanks, but against all the rest of targets it's perfection

@GeorgiaBoy1961 the sherman 75 was a very good cheap tank, much better and effective than the T34/76 blind cramped tank. Even if the T34 had advantage in some circumstances like less dangerous motor, better armour and light ground pressure. As long as the M4 didn't had to be in a tank fight it was amazing and effective. Americans made great tanks based on such theory, with multi purpose accurate gun, comfortable and simple hull/turret, M48/M60. However Abrams screwed up it all.

@GeorgiaBoy1961 Actually, soviet tank optics were good, unlike the legend, but were not as good as germans. They were simple and effective, and the crew in soviet army were very good in the end of the war, vs the german crews being less and less good because of short training.

@GeorgiaBoy1961 Quite right, APCR from 85mm was awesome, but never widely used. Some T34 and SU85 had up to 5 of them and were manned by experienced crew, in case of tiger/panter/stug encounter. The APCBC worked fine however on all the standard german armour. You are also right on the Attack/defense i didn't thought of it at all i just looked at the facts. The same in korea : T34 were on the move and destroyed by well entrenched M4 76mm, but it would have been the opposite

@GeorgiaBoy1961 The IS3, while having an incredible armour/wheight ratio was a failed tank. Russians themselves didn't like it, and it was widely exported (to egypt for example) and performed poorly in all battles it was used. Its main problems were mobility issues, but i wouldn't want to be in a M46 or centurion 20pdnr facing a russian manned IS3 ! The post war modernised IS2M was less armoured, but a far better and reliable tank than IS3. I like IS2M great simple & pretty tank

How does the Challenger 2 fare against top-attack weapons, such as EFPs or air-burst munitions? Most tanks, even the best protected modern designs, have thinner top armor, hence my curiousity. Also curious to know if the CR2 or M1 Abrams can withstand thermobaric weapons, such as FAEs.

@PATRONSKiii: "Poor, but very accuraate and with a high ROF." One other aspect deserves mention. You already noted the high ROF and accuracy of the 75mm; our tanks also had a much-faster traverse than most German designs, which meant our crews could get the tube on target faster. This might or might not make a difference, depending on the target, but getting your gun down-range and hot quickly is never a bad thing. The short-barreled 75 was also easy to maintain.
