Canadian mezzo-soprano Julie Nesrallah performed at the VCI theatre in Vankleek Hill, Ontario, on March 7, 2010.
Accompanied on the piano by Nadia Boucher, Nesrallah provided the audience with lively commentary throughout the show that made it feel more like cabaret than a traditional concert.
When it came time to set up her last piece Habenera, the popular aria from Bizets Carmen she stated the piece needed no introduction -- that it was another song about a "big haired seductress." Preparing her conclusion to the concert she kicked off her high-heels and explained that Carmen spent the whole first act barefoot. As you will see, the audience loved every moment.
This excerpt was part of the third concert in the Music Alive! series, sponsored by the Vankleek Hill Music Festival with support from the Ontario Arts Council and The Review.

Hey Simon - careful of those grizzlies. They can turn on a dime and are very fast.

Katmail indeed, claws out for an engaging personna and a great voice. Note your channel appears somewhat lax of activity, signed up only to post this armchair critique? Wow, given the intellectual level of your critique, I hear Fox News is looking to air a classical music show and as a reviewer you could thus join them and therefore your fellow cognoscenti.

Eileen Farrell sang Wagner. Measha maybe - Nesrallah, Never! Furthermore, what you see here is appallingly bad taste, a crass lack of professionalism and something like a one hit wonder...and if that's what your definition of personality, well - go for it.
Shame on the CBC for keeping this person on the air. Although she does seem to have trucker appeal.

Canadian classical singers are the only ones allowed to have personality, and the public still attends. I LOVE IT! Kudos to Canada! Measha, though hated by so many in the US (but why) takes her chest sound all the way to the top like the old girls who really SANG! Measha is like an Eileen Farrell without the huge sound. Brava JN!

@699backstab : Me too! I'm listening to Tempo just before I'm off to school and I really like her program. She's such an amazing person and has great charisma. Only today I decided to google her and I was amazed at what an accomplished, beautiful woman she is!
