  • Its such a great concept, be great if they can iron out the bugs, no matter what you do, a Helicopter is a deeply complex and at times touchy machine.

  • @cessna369 I knew about the coanda effect but i didn't know about its deficiencies very informative stuff thanks, but yea that sounds like a serious flaw especially for military use.

  • @LTF85199 They have issues. Read up on the coanda effect, the slot on the right side of the NOTAR tail boom, and how NOTAR works. Then read up on MD's warnings about right quartering tailwinds. Further, read up on the concept of loss of authority for NOTAR and Fenestron (fantail) aircraft. US Army rejected them, despite Comanche demo, and has stand. TR on even new aircraft like the Lakota.

  • @i8thegoverment I think...you are correct.

  • @LTF85199 most likely because only MD uses the tech extensively, and also because fenestron is a more popular alternative especially in europe.

in another word, it's probably politic and marketing that hampers NOTAR proliferation even though in theory NOTAR should be the superior system with simpler construction and no exposed blades and quieter operation.

  • Does anyone know why the NOTAR (no tail rotor) technology is not getting very popular?

  • This is an MD 902 explorer.

  • cool vidéo

  • I see versions of these flying to & from the local hospital ALL the time.
