This was first released on "Honky Tonk Heroes" that contained mostly all Billy Joe Shaver's songs.

This too is a Billy Joe Shaver song, but, this is more like a demo recording of it, this is NOT the one that appears on "Honky Tonk Heroes", this version was recorded at Glaser Studios in Nashville on October 20th, 1975.

This version first appeared on Mackintosh & T.J. and now it is available on the cd of "Dreaming My Dreams".
This was also the first album that went Number One for Waylon and was produced by "Cowboy" Jack Clement

  • When ya listen to the old version from Honky Tonk Heros, and this version made much later in his life... The differences are very profound, and thought provoking. The young rebellious Waylon on the cusp of starting the Outlaw revolution in Country & Western music, and the older Waylon, an Icon to the new generations of musicians and fans. Both versions sung with passion and feeling. It's the same man singing the same song, but the experience of his life and work is more pronounced is the latter

  • You really need to pay attention to Waylon's voice, this is not the older Waylon at all, the original on HTH was recorded in 1973, this version was recorded only two years later in 1975. Waylon sounds like his outlaw period here, not the older "FAMILY MAN" Waylon.

  • Waylon amazing again..

Chris ledoux also sang this song, i have to admit i'm partial to his version.. but cannot go wrong with waylon.

  • Well, the thing that makes every Waylon song special is that he put his heart, soul, mind, body and voice into it. Every word he ever sang came right from the heart. It takes a lot to BE every word you sing and say.

  • Too bad my appreciation for Waylon and Johnny manifested itself near the end of their lives, I missed so much when they were still with us in this world. Their wisdom and music is with me everyday.

  • From the movie Macintosh and TJ

  • Thanks for sharing the music.

  • I guess I thought this version was the real deal and the other one was the alternative. Waylon gave this version a more gentle interpretation.

  • being a bullrider, I love this song, and it hits home....Thanks for making a great vid for this great song...
