An exclusive series of Living Legends Music interviews with Mickey Thomas. Part 2 of 9. Recorded on October 3rd, 2008 at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa in Lake Buena Vista, FL.
It's a small world. I was the guy from Tallahassee, actually Quitman, Ga., that called you.
Johnny V, from Daly City, Ca., and guitar player in Gideon's band, was a friend of mine, and he called me to ask about a Southern "tenor singer". Gideon flew from SF to Quitman, Ga. You came down over from Valdosta, and auditioned at my house. You were the second singer Gideon auditoned. The first was a guy from Miami, living in Tallahassee. Gideon like you best. I met Johnny V in Hawaii.
@RICKOBEAR Well, think about it, there are many, very bright lights facing him to FILM THE INTERVIEW, not comfortable to be in front of for ANY length of time. Maybe he is just trying to protect his eyes from discomfort.
All music really comes from gospel...rock, swing, blues, rap, you name it.......the greatest singer i ever knew was James cleveland......its no surprise when I just watched this and found out that mickey was mentored by this gospel dude
I saw Gideon & Power numerous times, and to this day (I'm 56), they were the best live act I've ever seen -- and that includes Jimi Hendrix. I remember when Mickey joined. Prior to that, there was Bobby Castro, Bruce Payne, and Charlie Hickox on piano and vocal. They appeared on the Flip Wilson and Sonny & Cher shows. Gideon took gospel music into nightclubs. By the end of most shows he had entire audiences jumping up and down and singing along. You couldn't leave without a smile on your face.
His aunt was my school nurse, I saw him sing first when I was...maybe 12. In band called Orgon Zable pre Giddeon. What a long strange trip it's been...

I've been a fan of Mickey Thomas since 1981. I never knew he was so well spoken. He's a great story teller.

Mickey Thomas tells good stories but he's so egotistical its almost sickening.

he is a rock star he wears shades because they are cool. Why do some bands wear spandex and have long hair?
