Berkleemusic talks with keynote speaker Tod Machover, Professor of Music & Media, MIT Media Lab, backstage at the Rethink Music conference in Boston.
Tod Machover has been called "America's Most Wired Composer" by the Los Angeles Times. He is Professor of Music & Media and Director of the Opera of the Future Group at the MIT Media Lab. Machover's music has been widely performed worldwide and has received numerous awards, most recently the 2010 Arts Prize from the World Technology Network. Machover is also acclaimed for inventing new technologies for music, such as his Hyperinstruments for virtuosi like Yo-Yo Ma and Prince to players of Guitar Hero, which grew out of his Lab. Machover's new "robotic" opera, Death and the Powers, premiered in Monaco in September 2010 and had its U.S. premiere performances recently in Boston and Chicago.
