"Motorbike made of jealousy" is brilliant. Fielding gets the applause because even though his style of humour is fairly easy to deconstruct, he's still more than capable of pulling it off and making it funny each time. It's not a little bit absurd, it's completely and utterly absurd.

Amstell ruiiiiiiiined him. Fieldings still sublime though, but this exchange highlights the fragility of his comedy.

Monty Python is heaps amount of irony and insightfulness masked in absurdities (Life of Brian rips apart religious fundamentalism), Noel Fielding to me is a likable random joke dispenser. His jokes aren't well crafted, clever or insightful, but it's saved because he looks and sound quirky, but that will get old very quickly. I was a pretty big fan of The Mighty Boosh years ago but now it gives me headaches. If Family Guy get's shafted because of non-relevant jokes, then so should Noel Fielding.

I think it's more that he became more popular for doing less.

I think it's because Noel is just better at it. A motorbike made of jealousy is more ridiculous for cutting a pillow than a pair of scissors made of glitter and I think ppl are looking a bit much into banter on a panel show :p it's practically the entire premise of these shows :)
