Triangle "grip" is more for the upper-back, a bit wider with your hands and the elbows to the stomach while doing pushups, and u have yourself a triceps exercize!

Another way to work up to a full pushup is to do negatives. Start in the up position and lower yourself to the ground as slow as you can, never compromising form.
