Next time when a gust hits you, just steer windward! Do not control your heel with your mainsheet! And always keep the boat upright and hike properly :D

On the Phantom if you do what you say you will lose speed v.quickly as the boat is very light. It is much quicker around the course to play the mainsheet in the gusts as there is a lot of main and you lose v.little speed.
I agree about the hiking but that day was very gusty and shifty and you don't lean out for long without falling in backwards at that venue. By the way it isn't me...

it was, its now known as a pointer-14 and looks like a small sunfish. There is one of these phantoms in the us now with another being built as i write
