NEWCASTLE UNITED 5-0 MANCHESTER UNITED (1996/97)

20th October, 1996

Newcastle United took revenge on the team which pipped them to the title the previous season in style. Darren Peacock headed the opener before David Ginola's sensational curling effort made it 2-0. Les Ferdinand headed in off the bar, Alan Shearer nipped in to slam home a loose ball before Philippe Albert put the icing on the cake with a wonderful chip which left Peter Schmeichel stranded. It capped an extraordinary Sunday which is now part of Geordie folklore.
