Scott Harper (D-Lockport), the 13th Cong. District Democratic Nominee, discusses and debates domestic, foreign and cultural public policy issues with show host Jeff Berkowitz. Topics discussed include, among others, differences in approach to the energy issue and high gas prices by Presidential candidates Obama and McCain, the War in Iraq, high gas prices, alternative energy sources and expanded off shore drilling, the housing and mortgage "crisis," federal bailouts of "Big Lenders" like Countrywide, raising or lowering federal taxes, free and/or fair trade, the federal ban on partial birth abortion, the expired federal assault weapon ban and same sex marriage. Democratic challenger Scott Harper is taking on, in the fall general election, ten-year Republican incumbent, Judy Biggert (R-Hinsdale).
Scott Harper's background and experience:
Scott Harper, 13th Cong. District Democratic Nominee, grew up in Naperville and graduated from Naperville Central High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Wheaton College, an MBA from the University of Chicago and a Master's Degree from Oxford University in England.
Harper worked as an executive focusing on labor relations for an automotive company. He subsequently helped grow a firm, Closer Look, from a staff of two to about a forty person, five million dollar revenue office in media, design and marketing. Scott Harper sold his interest, recently, in Closer Look to focus full-time on the 13th Cong. District race.
Harper was a member of Old St. Patrick's church in Chicago, IL. He is divorced, with two grown up daughters: one at the Pratt Institute of Design and the other at Barnard/Columbia

The 13th Cong. District:
About one half of the 13th CD is in DuPage county and that portion of the District includes the following or portions of the following cities: Naperville, Downers Grove, Hinsdale,Westmont, Woodridge, Lisle and Oak Brook. About thirty-five percent of the 13th CD is in Will County and that portion of the District includes the following or portions of the following cities: Aurora, Bolingbrook, Romeoville, Lockport, Joliet and Lemont. About fifteen per cent of the District is in Cook County and that portion of the District includes the following or portions of the following cities: Palos Hills, Lyons, Orland Park and Orland Hills.
The District includes Argonne National Laboratory and the Headquarters for Ace Hardware, Federal Signal, McDonald's and its Hamburger University.
Countrywide was eaten by Bank of America. As Wall St. implodes we're finally seeing what happens when our government follows radical rightwing Republican economic theory advocated by the likes of Judy Biggert. They threw out the regulations and oversight in favor of letting Wall St. police itself. Now it's costing US taxpayers a trillion dollars.
