As the rumors spread through the Purple Ticket crowd on "D" and 1st Streets, supposedly there were people in front of the crowd, without tickets, or with Silver Tickets blocking the Purple Gate Entrance .
Because of this, they had to make room through the packed mob scene, to allow these non-ticket people to leave, so we the Invitational Purple Ticket holders could be allowed to enter. As you see, unofficial individuals tried to lead the pack, for there was no one else to navigate this confused situation.
At this point, one could not even breathe . The people were so tightly stacked that you could have been knocked over and trampled, or crushed at any given moment. But it was so tight, you could not even leave the situation for 3 hours.
I was there as well! Through sheer luck we took the Southbound 395 Tunnel to the gate instead of the Northbound "Purple Tunnel of Doom". That got us to the bottleneck @ 1st and D street where we ran into Samuel L. Jackson and Jesse Jackson. I ended up going west one block and weaseled our way into the gate. One of the most stressful morning I have ever had, just feel blessed we actually made it in!
