Both of these are the same recording with the former one probably remastered at some later date. This song has been recorded by a number of artists, but this Ventures version was probably copied from Jorgen Ingemann's version. His version has the neatest lead guitars (nylon string acoustic for the main melody and electric playing all the "answers" in overtones). But of all the versions I've heard, the Venture's version has the absolute BEST bass part created and played by Bob Bogle.

Brings back memories of my school days when I first heard this. There are a few more great instrumentals in that album. Thank you for posting this!

@GeoSilverMore I am my friend. These are thes same versions, one has been remastered (early 1990's).
The version on "Golden Greats" is completely different.

Not to confuse you, but rhh1945 is wrong. I have Golden Greats and it's version was recorded in the studio and is very much like the On Stage version. As is the Live in Japan version and the version on the Beloved Invaders Video. If you are interested, I have a video comparison I could send you.
OK, to clear this up, this version comes from the "Ventures Play Telstar" album recorded in 1963.
There was no studio version called "Apache'65" but it was called that on the "Ventures On Stage" album (probably to cash in the Davie Allan and the Arrrows single).
'Apache' was re-recorded however, in the studio (probably around 1965) but first appeared on the "Golden Greats" album.

@verlaine4 Are you agreeing that the first one here is the 1963 remastered?
On Golden Greats it's completely different.
In other words the CD compilation created an unholy mess of the naming.

"Apache '65" on the Golden Greats Album has a totally different sound. Nokie "squeaks" his Low E string to make the flying arrow sounds. He also slides up to the echo part in the bridge section.

@fmarsalajr Let's not confuse this any farther. Golden Greats (1967) does not contain "Apache 65". You wrote it wrong fmarsalajr. It just contained "Apache", and I've been told by rhh1945 that it's the same as their 1963 LP.
I'm coming to the conclusion I stated a month ago, and which shatinterry first said.

What if it's a mistake by the studio. Maybe they used the wrong title. Maybe this first one is simply an enhanced master of 1963.

The "Apache 65" version is on the first "The Ventures on Stage" album, which was released in 1965 (there are 70s-era albums with the same title suffixed by the year). It's all live concert recordings, I think. There's other really good stuff on the album, too.

@jwpretd I've heard that said before. When I looked for it online I heard a messy live performance. You have heard the LP? It would be strange that a stage performance would be so clean and perfect.
