Earlier today I rode in the London To Southend Bike Ride for the British Heart Foundation and here is the video of today's event. Regular viewers will recognise MD in his blue Kapiti Cycling Club jersey on his first London To Southend ride.
The weather was great, warm and sunny with some cloud cover earlier on. The wind was light and mostly from behind and the start seemed less congested than last year, so it was easier to get going.
Once again full praise to the marshalls and organisers; and a very well done to all who took part!
Stats:
Ride Time: 2h 45m
Distance: 52.36 miles
Average: 18.9 mph
Max Speed: 34.5 mph
Just as last year, I rode to the start (being as how it's part of my commute anyway) and rode back to London again after the event. My stats for the total journey for the day are:
Ride Time: 5h 57m
Distance: 100.34 miles
Average: 16.8
(Note that it's been a while since I've used my ACT3K camera and unfortunately the bracket wasn't able to keep the camera from pointing at the ground for a while. Once I spotted this I made an adjustment but sadly the view was not as good as I'd hoped for.)
U doing this ride this year? I am... Just about to start training for it and other stuff soon

Yeah probably. I quite like this ride as I get a nice warm-up on the 14 miles to the start and can ride home from the finish in time for a late lunch.

excellent vid, i just completed the new London to Hastings bike ride yesterday for BHF, everyone was complaining of the route, as it was all hills all the way, over half of the people backed out and never finished, i spoke to the finish line staff who said the are going to change the route for next year, as it was too extreme

Well done for getting up all those hills then. How was the ride? Have been tempted by this London To Hastings but not so sure if they're thinking of changing the route.

Nice vid. The battery lasted all that time? Is that time lapse or just speeded up?

Thanks. The batteries were in the charger 2 days before the ride and stayed there until the last moment to get the maximum life out of them. The video was shot in realtime then sped up to get under the 10 min limit for YT uploads. Not that you'd really sit there through the whole thing at normal speed anyway - no, you'd rather be out there experiencing it first-hand right? ;)
