@ MaryTara, to be more precise, Al-Baqarah means 'The Calf', this chapter talks about mainly on The Children Israel, and incident that occurred amongst them, whilst the Prophet Moses (Peace be upon him) went upon the Mount to receive the 10 Commandments. This chapter also covers many aspects also about humankind's state, belief & disbelief and the consequence's.

@shuayb3 I am almost sure that was a different story. The "cow" refers to the order Allah gave bani Israel to slaughter a cow and they began to ask silly questions instead of following Allah's command. The idol they worshipped while waiting for Moses to return from MOunt Sinai was a golden calf and it is a different story. The point is that the people of Israel always went astray instead of obeying Allah's commandements. ANd Allah knows best

sorry comment wasn't complete error occured, the cow is in reference to isreal, i.e the jews who were the desiples of moses at that time, they were waiting for Moses to return from the top of Mount SINAI, moses had been thier for almost a year, i think it was then or may be later i have to find out myself as well, but Moses followers during that time started to go astray and started to worship a GOLDEN COW, i think it was a statue
