One of the more prominent voices of the latter Big Band Era, Dick Haymes recorded well into the 1960's. The much-married singer/actor (six times, one of which was the actress Rita Hayworth), recorded "On A Slow Boat To China" in 1956/57 with an arrangement and orchestra conducted by Maury Laws and Cy Coleman at the piano.

  • Great rendition by my favorite. What's the significance of Rita Hayworth pictures? Were they married?

  • @donaldmarhefka Yes, Dick and Rita were married.

  • Yeah, they were married but she was the undoing of his career, thanks to the vindictive Harry Cohn, who thought he owned Rita. Harry ruined more careers than any other producer in Hollywood. Pure hate and deceit.

  • @joeasmythe Dick Haymes was an excellent male vocalist. Great diction when he sang

and this song is great. Two Thumbs Up!

  • The memories of this big hit are sweet. Dick Haymes was the man, before Frank came along..

  • There will never be a voice as rich and romantic as Dick Haymes.

He left behind a legacy that we'll never forget.

  • I remember when the song first came out; that was just a couple of years ago, 1948 was it?

  • Dick Haymes , 50's style , all very relaxed and swinging . All the sides cut with Cy Coleman's trio around 1957-58 are good . We could say the same of the forgotten "suffer" , recorded around the same time .
