Osh residents fear further violence

Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds wounded in clashes between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbek, which broke out in the southern city of Osh on Friday.

The interim government, which took control in April, sent in troops to break up the riots and declared a state of emergency in the city.
Thousands of ethnic Uzbeks are trying to escape southern Kyrgyzstan after clashes between Kyrgyz and Uzbeks killed dozens of people in the city of Osh.

The Uzbeks are trying to cross the border into Uzbekistan.

The Kyrgyz interim government has admitted that it has lost control of Osh, the country's second largest city, and has asked for Russian help to quell the violence.

Ethnic Uzbeks and Kyrgyz have lived there side by side for many years, but there are many who believe this latest violence is a deliberate attempt to stir up old tensions between two communities.

A state of emergency has been declared in Kyrgyzstan as thousands of protesters calling for President Bakiev to resign, clash with police across the country. Unconfirmed reports suggest at least 17 people have been killed and hundreds injured. Witnesses say Kyrgyz interior minister has died from injuries in Kyrgyz city of Talas.
