Fenêtres

Stars shining
beyond the fiery light.
I see stillness
through windows
pervading trees
framed by memories.
Leaflets, unreadable,
flying down
abandoned streets.
Unanswered
telephones ringing
as buildings fall
to the ground.
A single, prolonged
ending sound
casting a spell
on all of it.

Through the intimate
fenêtre to your heart,
in you, I forgot.
I forgot your pain.
You took mine away.
One tear
falling like lovers did
when they fell
into a day absent
from the promise
of tomorrow.
Cycling yesterdays
travel far from memory
as my heart opens
upon this new hour
sounded by bells
you played
from the tower
you waited in
and I used to climb
but never listen to.
