Her vowels sound VERY spread and childish.

That is so great that your grandfather actually heard her live! Wow! I like this recording much better than the 1930 one (also on YouTube). This rendition is less frenetic and more relaxed than the 1930 performance. Most enjoyable and wonderful.
Thank you for posting. :)

I love Victoria de los Ángeles and also Mado Robin of this song.
I don't if Conchita Supervia has recording of this song, sometimes I have imagined how it would be! :-)

i think there as a recording of this song done by Miliza Korjus, assuming later.

My grandfather heard Galli-Curci in live performance and claimed she was the greatest female singer ever, while my father used to listen to her recordings played by my grandfather on an old gramophone. So I guess my love of her voice and singing has been genetically transmitted. Of course, there is ample reason why she was so admired by several generations. I'll have to listen to de los Angeles' recording of the song based on your recommendation and the fact I love her singing too.

Victoria de los Ángeles made a supreme recording of this song.
My mother loved this Galli Curci record, which she grew up with. It is a prime example of the charm and delicate beauty of Galli Curci's leggiero voice at her best. The insinuating phrasing and rubato are delectable!
Any man could fall madly in love with someone who sang like this! So sweet and charming, makes one wish for a time machine to go back to her performances.
