As our schools become classrooms numbers increase and parents continue to struggle at home because of the economy teachers are overwhelmed by the number of students that need social and emotional support. Counselors are needed

This brought tears to my eyes. My students can't learn in the classroom if their personal problems get in their way. They need someone to listen to them when no one else is there. Please save our counselors :)

Teachers, counselors, librarians, administrators, custodians, translators, psychologists...all of us are critical and essential to the success of students. This is why standing together, united will protect the educational future of our children. Negative attacks will only hold all of us back. The elimination of an entire program can happen to any group at any time-be there for one another!

Everyone in a school district helps create the learning environment for students. Counselors are a necessary part of the learning environment; they assist students in course scheduling & college/careeer & with social, emotional & behavior problems. If the students' social, emotional, & behavior needs are not being met the students will not be able to learn. Cutting counselors will negatively effect learning and test scores. This will effect the quality of education public education.

But don't you think it is the teachers who help the students? Where would the students go if you had no teachers. I think counselors are overrated.

Counselors are cool: You need proof? Here it is!
lol!
@misterlivic: Generally, teachers are so overwhelmed with teaching standards & rigorous curriculum that they don't have time to spend helping students with bullying, personal (death, divorced parents, incarcerated parents, abuse, etc.) emotional (suicidal, depression, etc.) & social problems (autism, friends, etc.) that impact their academic success. Counselors work with students to improve attendance, academic performance and career awareness. The system needs BOTH teachers & counselors. =D

Teachers: listen up! Who will insure A-G requirements are met? Who will review student coursework, support at-risk students, monitor floundering students. The teachers?? You've got to be kidding! When teachers realize this function will fall on their shoulders, they will join the discussion. School board thinking is short-sighted, indeed. P.S. (Would love to see a transcript of the rally comments because it was challenging to absorb. Still this is an amazing project
