A lot of American spellings are how the British used to spell but have since changed; for example their use of 'z' rather than 's' in many words. It's ridiculous to claim that one is 'true' English, they're both developing and will never stop.
And I agree that the german system of spelling is normally easier, if initially confusing as hell for a native English speaker.

Ha! Way to be except that in Mexico, the people are called Mexican, in Canada people are called Canadian, etc. However you have a point in that Americans speak all of these different languages simply because of the whole "Boiling pot" where people are allowed to speak only Spanish, Japanese, Navajo, etc and they'll still be classified as Americans. So... sorry but you're only half right. ^.^; I think that our language is referred to as English because we were an English country at one time.

Um, ok, are you trying to say that the English don't speak English? Cause lol. Americans also speak English, but you spell everything phonetically, because the nuances of correct spelling escape the majority of them. British, Scottish and American are all accents, but it is the same language.

what i was just saying is ^^ that the americans actually speak like they write.

we got the same thing in germany.
accents are just part of an actual language but still you say "it is a different" language.

ofcourse all the accents end up beeing the specific language. but still, he said they were speaking "american" not english ^^ while i said hes just speaking british

Americans actually speak Spanish, English, French, Portuguese... whatever is spoken between the Kaffeklubben Islands and the Southern Thule. Sorry, but America is a continent.
