Video is sped up approximately 15 times.
Approximately 8,000 fire ants originally shaped into a ball are placed on the surface water. They spread themselves out into a pancake shaped raft floating on the water. The raft is waterproof due to the tightly knit "weave" of the ants in the bottom layer which serves as a platform for the rest of the ants to walk freely on.

Hello fire ants, I like to play a game...The game is simple, try make a raft to escape b4 the flame thrower burn you alive and you have to swim fast you could, you have 10 second left b4 the flame thrower turn on...1, 2, 10!
