It's not, L4d 1 and 2, TF2, Cod, GTA4, these are just a few games that let you play online MP for free if you get them for the PC. Hell, TF2 is even far far better on the pc yet it doesn't cost a thing to play. What kind of deal is that? A rip off that's what.
The only reason to pay for x box live is to play Halo reach or too human.

Both are a blast at first but they get old, 95% of the online games for these consoles are the same just mindlessly shooting things, I'd rather have a wii at this point.
I would go with PS3 unless you really want to play halo reach, both consoles have the same online games for the most part but PSN doesn't rip you off with that monthly bill you have to pay to play games that are free to play online for the PC and PS3.
