  • A wonderful recording. Both sing with more emotion than we are used to. What a beautiful blending of their voices. Gluck sings with great ease and Homer with a cello like resonance in her low notes. Surely a Golden Age performance of this difficult Rossini duet.

    Once again, thank you Doug!

  • @Bivolari

Oh, my pleasure... again, thank YOU, Stephen!

Molto Bello!!! Thank you for sharing this video.

  • Such singing makes this strange music sound quite something else, doesn't it? They blend uncannily well.

  • thank you for this and all the other beautiful treasures you share with us!

  • Oh my, yes! This makes it clear just who we are dealing with here! Listening to some of the lighter duets they were fond of doing, one can get an insufficient impression of these two musical giants. This makes it a LOT clearer! Thanks for this beauty!

  • Fully agree with Stephen. The beauty and finish of Gluck's sheer vocalism and legato lyricism continue to impress. As for Homer, where her recordings are concerned, I usually prefer her singing in ensembles rather than solos as she tended to be much more vivid and passionate in the former than the latter (Homer was said to be dissatisfied with all her recordings, perhaps because they didn't reflect well what she could really do in concert halls and opera houses). Thank you for sharing.

  • My favorite duet - far much better than "Whispering Hope"...:-)
