Stephen Harper tells voters that if they re-elect the Conservatives the federal deficit will be eliminated a year early. After the election, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty says he makes no commitment to eliminate the deficit early.

Response to rollsthepaul: No, you are quite wrong. Politics needn't be corrupt, it's just that Harper wants you to believe it must be. If you do, then he knows he can get away with anything since you'll believe there is no alternative. The more cynical Canadians get, the better Harper likes it. Cynics typically don't try to build an alternative because it's easier to just say "it's all rotten" and walk away. If you do that, you're just playing Harper's game and he wins.

My bullshit filter was clogged alot with the teflon the slick prick wipped off

himself this campain. Mega jails & jets with open ended funding is our gift.

Meanwhile many young voters had little interest in the illusion of choice election.

This is not a scam, it is normal politics. Politics is one big scam. Haven't you taken, Hypocrisy 101? Harper calls such moves " maneuvers" and he is right. When the whole system is rotten, anything you can get away with, is a maneuver or strategic move. It is quite a juggling act to avoid a CLM(Career Limiting Move) and Harper has done well, thanks to the Liberal party, his biggest supporter. If you want to be part of something, with an ethical base, may I suggest helping wayward individuals.
