Well, I've finally decided on a name for the project: Infractus. It's Latin for "broken"; this covers both the fractal element and the fact that development has been broken up over a year.
Anyways, this specific animation shows off the flame fractal rendering module I've written purely using Lua and GLSL. This video was rendered at a constant frame rate to preserve smoothness, but a decent modern video card can easily push 40-50 FPS during rendering (my GTX 260 Core 216 can get up to 50 FPS). Of course, this is not fully optimized; there's still plenty of speed to squeeze from this.
This animation is entirely randomly generated; I didn't select any of these beforehand for the aesthetic properties. This sequence is one that could theoretically be seen by anyone who downloaded Infractus and ran the flame fractal module. Of course, given the random nature, you may have to wait a while :P
Three way radial symmetry was turned on for this animation because I think it's the best looking way to create symmetry for any flame.
Music is the closing solo of Phase II from Voyage 34 by Porcupine Tree. Given the kaleidoscopic nature of the video, I felt some psychedelic rock was appropriate. Plus, that Steven Wilson sure knows how to play a guitar.
Well Done!
