@courtzlonglife Actually Madonna did address it by saying that Lady Gaga's Born This Way is reductive compared to her own Express Yourself
-
They're both kweens~ love them.
-
@courtzlonglife 9 months later Madonna speaks. She said she recognizes the chord progression, and that it was an interesting way to remake her single although "reductive. Look it up"
-
@courtzlonglife She has now....... It's "reductive".
-
@courtzlonglife Regardless of how Madonna responded, Gaga ripped her off blatantly :p You can't go calling her original and creative when she basically did a cover :p Who cares how Madonna responded.. It's not okay to steal from a shop just because the owner didn't get mad when they found out :p

@ElectricChapel2011 Also, you can't plagiarize a chord progression, many songs have the same chord progressions. But they do also have similar lyrics and melodies.

Lady Gaga com toda Certeza...

@TheBeatlesToday It's the same stepwise descent at the same interval within a shared pitch range per octave in the same register...There's a reason why these songs go well together.
Look: Take EY and speed it up by 50% (pitch +2). Overlay EY verse 2 chorus 2 bridge with BTW verse 1 chorus 1 bridge. It's the same song. Same orchestration. Same pitch harmonics. Same rythm. Same melody. Same noiselike sounds. Same lyrical drama and symmetry.
The only difference is arrangment and tempo.

@ElectricChapel2011 That's actually not true... The melody matches up at some points. For example, the melody of the line 'So if you want it right now, make him show you how' at the end of "Express Yourself" sounds eerily similar to the line 'I'm beautiful in my way, 'cause God makes no mistakes' in "Born This Way". And that's only one example...
People are all bitching about how Lady Gaga copied Madonna, but have you noticed that Madonna has said nothing or taken no action about it. Every artist has influences, and obviously Madonna is once of Lady Gaga's. And Madonna is cool about it, then I don't see why every is so angry.

I'm about to throw some chords at you. Madonna’s song is in the key of G, with a repetitive chord progression of G-C-F-G (or I-IV-VII-I.) This is a common chord progression in many a pop song. That said, Born This Way is dropped down a key to F#, with the progression reversed (or I-VII-IV-I.) Not too much of a difference, but just enough to not be blatant plagiarism.
