To that I agree.
They wanted to do more and more can be done with -for instance- the camera system.
Still, putting into context it's a good price.
Especially because it's open source, although I am not sure or they have finally released the PDK yet. Something they also promised.
I disagree about D-Rex being just as flashy, since D-rex is more of a toy then a companion.
Maybe it's not "flashier" but certainly it has more features and is more of a companion then any other toy out there IMO.

Addendum: The warranty is only ninety days, and on the forum an awful lot of people are running into major issues after the warranty runs out, but not more than a year after they bought the toy. For $300. I want something that will last a year, anyway.

Aibo was marvelous, yes. Pleo has more advanced technology than any toy on the market, yes. But it's a crying shame that despite all of the time and money Ugobe has put into it, it still doesn't do anything any flashier than D-Rex, a toy half Pleo's price. Nevermind all of the mechanical problems people are talking about at the Pleoworld forums.
I see where the money went, but I don't think the results were what they could have been.

That because your current judgement is only a fraction of why this impressive piece of technology costs $300.
Not only by what it can do feature-wise, but the extensive research and development that has gone into Pleo.
Technically speaking, this is the most advanced robot marvel you can get your hands on as a consumer for this kind of price.
You think 300 is a lot of bucks?
Try looking for second hand AIBO dogs (as Sony doesn't make them anymore).
They go anywhere from 1000 to 3000 dollars!

$300. for something that wiggles, blinks, shuffles and holds a plastic leak in it's mouth? I don't get it.
