@bcd8538 the 10,000 hours rule is rubbish. Tim rightly suggests to look through the 10,000 rule and note it's what you do and how you do it that determines the time taken to reach "expert" level. Expert is inherently relative to your environment/field/industry, "competency" at X in environment A would mean you're "proficient", but in environment B you're an "expert". ...
The 10,000 hours, referenced in "Outliers", deals with becoming a "Expert" in a field, Not the time required to become "proficient" or "competent". Clearly there's a disconnect between the idea of competency & excellence ( of mastery ).
